Book Description:

Protect. Obey. Sacrifice.

These words are the mantra of my existence. I’m not sure if it’s TitusRogen inspiring my desire to go against what I am or my own DNA deviating. All I can think is how Titus will look when he meets his end.

It trumps even my wish for freedom. In this moment, I want nothing more than to watch the life bleed from Titus’s body. And I want it at my own hands.

Titus. The Creator.

I stare at my palms. Strength aside, I wonder if I’m capable of taking a life. A human life; one with a soul. And I wonder if that isn’t easier than taking the life of an Imitation. At least humans have souls that live on. What do I have after this? Where will I go? Back into a syringe? Will Titus recycle me? Or will I be lost forever down a lab drain?

We don’t deserve that.

We don’t deserve him.

Deserving and receiving are so very different here. And I am beginning to understand, to beat someone in this world, I‘ll have to play in it.

Excerpt:

“Can I help you all?” A large woman came out from behind the counter, her sudden appearance making me jump. I hadn’t seen her until she moved. Her red and gold gypsy-style shirt camouflaged perfectly with the rug hanging on the wall behind her.

“Just browsing, thanks.” I smiled at her. She didn’t smile back.

“Your friend there like art?” The woman indicated Ryan with a jut of her chin.

“He’s a painter.”

Excerpt:

I swallowed hard and walked deeper into the alley. Another bang shook the walls, causing me to flinch. Nothing in the alley moved. The whole place held its breath, afraid to exhale.

Whatever they’d lined up would be good. I could feel it. My stomach was doing backflips now. I just had to make sure I reacted appropriately. Too much fear, and they’d never stop messing with me. Too little, and they’d know I was onto them.

Something that sounded like a bag of oranges being dragged across gravel scraped the ground. It followed by a loud splat. Did one of them toss a water balloon? I wanted to check, but my gaze was drawn to a flash of white in my peripheral. What was that?

Excerpt:

She took a deep breath. Usually her interviews became more personal. She wasn’t sure how personal to get with him. She knew a lot about him—at least she used to—but she was scared of asking him the wrong thing. She didn’t want to set him off.

“What’s your favorite color?” Caitlyn held a pen in her hand, poised to write, trying to concentrate on the task at hand. Her focus, though, was Wesley’s deep green eyes. Eyes able to pierce her and reach a part of her no one had ever been able to touch before. Something about the way he looked at her, like he saw only her, deep down, clear to her soul.

A hint of danger lurked in his eyes, a predator-like stance that made her sense he was ready to devour her, sexually and otherwise. A vulnerability that made Caitlyn yearn to take him in her arms, to be as close to him as possible. His gaze held no arrogance, no indifference, and no deceit.

Book Description:

After the last Dreamory, Fable, Axel and Shew want to learn more about the Lost Seven, and how the Huntsman fell in love with Snow White; an exploration that will lead to dire consequences. Meanwhile, Carmilla Karnstein's diary falls into the hands of Lucy Rumpelstein, who is desperate to learn about the Queen's mystery and how she came to be who she is now; a truth the should have better been left untold.

Who is the Queen of Sorrow, and how did she turn into a cold-blooded monster longing for her own daughter's heart? When and how did the Huntsman fall in love with Snow White? Is there such a thing as True Love?

I have been accused of being malicious and evil.

I, the Snow White Queen, have a story to tell.

The true story and what has really happened. How it all happened. Why the Brothers Grimm altered the truth, letting you think it was a fairy tale. When and how the tale took place. And above all, why I did what I did. Why you haven’t been told the truth for centuries. The truth about me and the truth about the not-so-innocent Snow White.

Here is my side of the story. You will never look at Snow White the same way again.

Excerpt:

The day I was born, a single red apple grew on a juniper tree in our castle's garden.

A Blood Apple.

It was a rare fruit; the most sought after in Europe at the time. An apple of unmatched sweetness and unearthly ripeness. Some claimed it could cure the sick and enrich the poor, grant children to the sterile, and keep the soul guarded from demonic possessions. Its rarity and taste made it comparable with gold and diamonds, if they were edible. There was a well-known saying: "A Blood Apple a day keeps all Sorrow away." Few people knew why the word "sorrow" had always been capitalized in this sentence. I learned why many years later.

The single, delicious Blood Apple that grew on my birthday was even rarer. This one was the first to grow in my homeland, Styria, in seven years. A nameless witch—we did not speak her name—had cursed my homeland in Western Europe many years before. Every time a tree gave birth to an apple, it came out grey, rotten, and infested with worms. No amount of magic or prayers managed to lift up the curse. They said the witch was the mother of all witches, that she was darker than the darkest shades of night. For reasons beyond me, she had cursed us with no intention to relieve us from her wicked omen, ever.

I have been waiting for this story ever since I read The Watcher and good god it did not disappoint. The Angel Killer by Lisa Voisin picks up a couple of weeks from where The Watcher left off. I really like Voisin’s style of writing and the way her characters develop throughout the story. But I think what I loved most was the story jumped right into things. The action started right in chapter one and just kept on growing in intensity until the very end.
