Damon believes Stefan is staying away because it would be too painful for him to see Damon and Elena as a couple, but Elena can’t escape the uneasy feeling that Stefan needs their help. While Elena is reluctant to leave Damon and Jeremy, she is also thrilled to be heading off to a new start at nearby Whitmore College with Caroline as her roommate. Still unaware that Bonnie is dead, Elena and Caroline are waiting for their friend to join them at college. Jeremy is the only one who can see and talk to Bonnie who is trapped on the Other Side.

Enzo helps Damon curb his urge to feed from vampires. Stefan and Katherine are going over history facts when Caroline arrives with the information he asked Liz for about Damon's whereabouts. Caroline gets a call from Tyler who doesn't even say hello before he tells her that Nadia has been compelling Matt. They agree to meet to find him. Stefan reminds Caroline that Tyler tried to kill her and that he hates her.
Katherine delays Stefan from finding Damon. Enzo and Damon are stuck inside a house by Wes and The Travellers. It's only a matter of time before Damon will want to feed on his best friend. Tyler and Caroline have an awkward meeting, but it's short lived when Matt arrives with Nadia. He explains they've been together so they don't get suspicious. Caroline isn't buying it. Nadia tells her she has no room to talk about the romantic company Matt is keeping. Enzo chains up Damon and calls Stefan, but Katherine answers.
He needs their help, but Katherine of course doesn't tell Stefan. Damon feeds on Enzo, but then he gets sick. Wes says the travellers made his blood like acid and that Enzo is free to go. He hesitates, but has no choice if he wants to live. Katherine makes her move on Stefan, but he backs off. Matt and Nadia are having a heart to heart. Matt kisses her confusing her, but he's just playing her and gets caught.
Matt pleads with Nadia not to kill him and she doesn't, but does compel him. Caroline confronts Nadia, they fight. Tyler comes to the rescue, but gets his butt kicked and she disappears. Katherine and Stefan find Damon and she implements her plan to get Damon to feed on her and he does. Stefan cuts his wrist to lure Damon to feed off him then he snaps his neck.
Tyler and Caroline talk. He apologizes and Caroline wants to be good again, but he tells her that isn't going to happen and she understands. Damon wakes up in the Salvatore basement chained up. Damon says he's going to kill him sooner or later, but Stefan isn't going to give up on him because they're brothers. Damon alludes to Elena wanting Stefan to kill him, but Stefan doesn't say anything and leaves.
Nadia shows Katherine that Tyler bit her and that she won't be around for long. Stefan and Caroline discuss what happened on the road trip which in turn leads to talking about Elena and how she's been acting. Stefan figures out the "K" in the text Matt sent to Caroline to stand for Katherine. So now they've figured out that Elena is Katherine.
