Professor Ron Green could only blame himself as his marriage teetered on a precipice. Even though the affair had been over for months, he felt accused by every icy stare his wife sent his way. What could be worse than this slow motion disaster? The murder of his ex-lover could be worse.

Becoming the prime suspect in her murder could be worse. Discovering another murder related to his lover's death, and making himself the scapegoat by telling the police about the connection could be worse.

Someone is killing harmless members of the focus group where he met his lover. What did the group do to cause this horrible vengeance? Who could feel hurt by anything Ron and the others had done in those two brief days?

Ron must answer those questions and find the killer before he ends up taking the fall. Or worse, before the killer finds him.

I always love it when I find a new author who leaves me anxiously awaiting their next book. After reading The Group, I can add Kevin Doyle’s name to that list.

Book Description:

When Dallas resident Callie Taylor died young, she expected to go to Heaven, or maybe Hell. Instead, she met her fate early thanks to a creep with a knife and a mommy complex.

Now she's witnessed another murder, and she's not about to let this one go. She's determined to help solve it before an innocent man goes to prison.

And to answer the biggest question of all: why the hell did she wake up in Alabama?

♥ ♥ ♥

"Waking Up Dead" follows the journey of Callie Taylor, who is newly dead and finds herself as a ghost in Alabama. Seeing as she was from and died in Texas, this turn of events is a mystery, but it's not the only one she has to deal with. Callie fills her days with going back and forth between the residents of the small town she is stuck haunting and watching television with them, even though they can't see her.

Her newest problem (after the whole being murdered and waking up dead in a strange state thing) arises when she witnesses the overly gruesome murder of one of the residents of the house she likes to frequent. The police arrest the woman’s husband for the murder, but Callie knows that he didn't do it (but being a ghost eye witness isn't going to do much good for the case).

In order to get help in finding the real murderer, Callie goes to the local Wal-Mart to try to find someone who can see her. This is where she meets Ashara, who at first, is less than thrilled that "a white ghost lady" keeps bothering her. It isn't until Callie follows Ashara to her grandmother's house (who Ashara calls "Maw-Maw"), that she gets the help she needs. Maw-Maw can also see Callie and tells Ashara that God has given her a gift, and she should use it to help Callie find the answer to this mystery.

Excerpt:

Natasha sighed. “You don’t need to stay until Detective Bentley comes.”

His eyebrows rose. “You want to be alone with the detective?”

Natasha grabbed a glass from the cupboard and filled it with water from the door of the fridge. “I just don’t want Jace and Lily to wait too long.” She turned to face him, taking a sip of the cold water.

Tony held her gaze with his warm stare and edged a step closer. “I wanted to make sure that you’re okay.”

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated or did you always just know you wanted to be a writer?

For most of my life I felt a yearning to write but always thought you would be seen by your teachers as gifted and everyone would encourage you. It took me working for a writer to get me interested.

What inspired Deep Connections?

It was a mixture of dreams and friends. I kept having this dream occur where two people would touch and they would feel the connection between them and know they had found the one. A few friends encouraged me to just write it down. From there, it went out of control.

It is rare that I read a book so remarkably well written that it actually moves me and I certainly didn’t expect to find that level of attachment to this book, but Devil in Disguise by Heather Huffman surpassed every and all expectations I could have possibly had for it. Not only did I adore the love story and re-connection of Rachel and Conrad, but the actual plot of the story was heart wrenching and compelling.

Huffan created a world that I immersed myself in, the good, the bad and the ugly, I couldn’t seem to take my nose out of this book. The relationship between Conrad and Rachel kept me entertained through the entire book. It was easy to see how much they cared about each other and the fact that they kept miscommunicating about how they felt and what they wanted was both amusing at points and sad.
