Book Description:

The most painful scars are the ones you never see.

In her DJ booth at a Cleveland dance club, Casey feels a sense of connection that’s the closest she ever gets to normal. On her college campus, she’s reserved, practical–all too aware of the disaster that can result when you trust the wrong person.

But inexplicably, Daniel refuses to pay attention to the walls she’s put up. Like Casey, he’s a senior. In every other way, he’s her opposite.

Sexy, open, effortlessly charming, Daniel is willing to take chances and show his feelings.

For some reason Casey can’t fathom, he’s intent on drawing her out of her bubble and back into a world that’s messy and unpredictable. He doesn’t know about the deep scars that pucker her stomach–or the deeper secret behind them. Since the violent night when everything changed, Casey has never let anyone get close enough to hurt her again. Now, she might be tempted to try.

Excerpt:

The world faded from me, and I started to sway. Music wove itself into me, into that blissful place where I escaped, into those moments that made me the happiest. I found my arms starting to raise over my head as I got caught up in the blind sensations I was experiencing.

Before I knew it, the heat from Daniel’s body poured toward mine as we moved closer together, a fraction at a time. My nipples brushed against his chest, my pelvis bumping his. I resolutely kept my eyes closed, though my body instantly responded with a telltale tightening, tingling. He didn’t push me, though, didn’t try to tug me closer. He let it be. His fingers squeezed ever so slightly on my hip, and something deep in my core intensified in response.

I inched toward him and peeked open my eyes to find his locked on my face, his pupils so wide his eyes were nearly black. My lips parted; my heart slammed against my rib cage. I let one arm fall to my side and the other drape over his shoulder, which drew us even closer together. His hand slid to my lower back, but still he didn’t pull me against him. Neither of us spoke, but our shared silence was potent with emotions.

Book Description:

Molly Tinker and husband, Police Chief Eric Wade, go to a Florida paradise to visit an old college friend.

They soon encounter evil in paradise when Molly's friend goes missing. Molly and Eric spend their vacation tracking down a killer, or maybe two killers.

This is a light and entertaining mystery with the endearing Molly Tinker back as super sleuth.

Murder on Vacation is a light read that I finished in one sitting. The characters are likable enough and the story is enjoyable if you are willing to not let its flaws distract you.

I felt that the story was rushed and needed to slow down just a bit and let the readers savor the heat of the Florida sun and the salty ocean waves, which could have been described in more detail, and let them get to know the characters better.

“It reminds me of the way the sun hits the water in the afternoon scattering color and light all over the beach revealing little nooks and crannies that were always there but didn’t catch my eye until the moment they sparkled in the sunlight, impossible to miss,” Josie – A Bad Boy Can Be Good For A Girl

A Bad Boy Can Be Good for a Girl by Tanya Lee Stone is written from the perspectives of three different girls, Josie, Nicolette, and Aviva. I love this book. First off I love the format Stone writes the book in. It’s easy to read and interesting to see how each section or word rather relates to what’s being written. Second, it’s realistic. I love when I can relate a book to an experience I’ve had in my life or one of my friends have had.

Excerpt:

Lola sat in the SUV with Rob right next to her on the way back to Blackrain’s office. She was very conscious of where Rob’s leg was because it kept brushing against hers. Each touch would heat her stomach and make her feel longing deep in her core. She felt butterflies at just the sight of Rob. She had never experienced anything close to this before. Sure she had guys rubbing up against her when she danced, but never in her life had she ever felt this emptiness mixed with fluttering in the pit of her stomach, this longing for a man to be inside her, filling her up, like she felt for Rob.

They pulled in front of a small, non-descript two-story brick building that housed Blackrain Security. High-tech security cameras followed them. The inside was much like she expected. The downstairs had a few fake plants in a few corners and there were cubes that each held desks. She walked past the kitchenette on her way to the stairs. The kitchen contained a small table and three chairs, a microwave, a stove and oven, a refrigerator, and a coffee pot.

It was a complete setup. Often, the men stayed overnight; they needed a working kitchen. The staircase was on the outside of the wall and led to a closed glass door. She imagined the upstairs was where they held their meetings. She didn’t see any conference tables in amongst the cubes. They made their way up the metal staircase and entered through the glass door. The upstairs was much more modern, with Impressionist paintings adorning the walls.

When You Make It Home by Claire Ashby follows Meg Michaels, bookstore owner as she struggles through the trials and tribulations of relationships, friendships and being pregnant and alone. I’ve got to say that I pretty much love pregnancy stories because fictional babies are adorable. But what I got with this novel was so much more!

I absolutely love Ashby’s style of writing and the way she brings her characters to life. It doesn’t take too long for the reader to find out that Meg is pregnant, something she struggles with quite a bit. She is also determined to hide the pregnancy from just about everyone, except of course her best friend who also happens to be pregnant.
