We'd like to welcome Riley Ross to Pink Fluffy Hearts where she talks about what drew her to writing and the world it created for her!
While growing up in rural Virginia, I dreamed of making my escape. Don’t get me wrong I loved the beauty of Virginia but I didn’t have the happiest of childhoods. It was a struggle to survive an alcoholic and abusive father but reading was my escape to a happier place. I was reading Jackie Collins books before the age of 12. Jackie Collins, Sandra Brown, Danielle Steele and others were my inspiration to write stories.
I would love to thank them for providing me with a safe haven to escape to. Also a huge thank you goes to my grandparents for introducing me to wrestling and romance novels and for providing me with happy childhood memories. My grandmother would always read a Harlequin romance novel; I got my love of books from her.
Once my parents divorced, my life did get easier; I was blessed with a wonderful stepfather that provided me with guidance and a moral support system that was lacking. I joined the Air Force when I was 18 and I didn’t look back. I was in the service for twelve years and on my first day, I met my version of Prince Charming. Jason is my rock and as he likes to say my moral compass. To the readers if you have someone in your life like this, never let them go.
Without the support of him and a few other people, I would have never had the confidence to write The Getaway. I am very thankful for Ty Langston, Tigris Eden, Alicia Pates and Stephanie Fodor Scott for bringing me to the group and for not letting me quit. I let some negative people get to me and those four ladies and my husband pulled me out of my rut and told me to shine. The moral to this is let the haters motivate you to better yourself. Don’t give into their hype and believe the hate they spew.
I guess what I am trying to say is have confidence in yourself and shine like the diamond you are. In case you are in a dark place in your life, I want to say it does get better. With the help of awesome friends in your life you are not alone. Thank you for letting me be a guest blogger today.
