Krista Miller feels like she has lived her entire life in a glass box with her every emotion on display. She can’t help feeling like a defect as her sensitivities have made her socially inept and without any real friends; the one exception being the boy that visits her each night in her dreams.
Krista’s emotions are put to the test when a move to California triggers a devastating change to her fantasy world. The nightly comfort that the boy provides has now become a recurring nightmare as he is taken from her by an unseen force.
Struggling to appear normal, Krista enrolls in a new school and finds it to be nothing like she thought. Her new life is sent spiraling out of control from a strange connection with a boy, Mark, who claims to know all her secrets.
As Krista begins to explore the emotions that Mark evokes in her, secrets about their mysterious past and their predestined purpose threatens to separate them just when they have found each other.

Book Description:
The Ascended is the final installment of The Saving Angels Trilogy. With Krista's life in turmoil, she is now struggling with the responsibilities that have been passed down to her. With the help of Haniel and her friends, Krista risks everything, including her soul, to march into the den of the Dark Angel. Their only chance for survival is for Krista to find the courage to accept the new role that fate has bestowed upon her, even if it means losing her loved ones forever.
After her dad’s death, seventeen year old Kristi and her adoptive mother move to Santa Cruz, California, a place that Kristi has been dreaming about her entire life. Once there, her life takes a huge turn toward the bizarre when she meets Mark, the boy of her dreams—literally. The connection is immediate, but she has no idea what causes it or how they are linked. She feels a similar connection to her first new friend at school, Sam.
Together with Sam, Sam’s boyfriend Shawn, and Mark, the four set out to figure out what has brought them all together in California. But the truth is something that none of them ever expected.
Although Tiffany King’s ‘Saving Angels’ series debuted in 2011, I only recently discovered it, after reading one of her other YA books, ‘Wishing For Someday Soon.’ I actually won this series in a contest on Twitter that the author was hosting—and she does this frequently, so if you’re not following her, go do so!
King has a way of engaging you in her books from page one and holding your attention til the end. I flew through this series in a few short days, and had a hard time putting it down because I wanted to know how it was going to end (and a bonus here is the package includes a short story that is a prequel for the series).
I found myself getting very attached to Krista, and also to Sam, Mark, Shawn and another character who later appears named Haniel, and when I was done reading, I was still wanting to read more about these characters! Fortunately for me, her most recent novel, entitled ‘Jordyn,’ gives you a glimpse of what’s going on in their lives a few years down the road, as that book is set in the same universe as ‘Saving Angels.’
The plot itself is unique in that many authors seem to choose to write about vampires (and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that), while this one is based around angels. Other authors might be tempted to incorporate a lot of religious doctrine into such a series, but King doesn’t. Instead, she creates this universe of her very own, with its own set of rules. And while it does mention heaven, the series isn’t in any way preachy or heavily religious.
I can’t tell you much else without spoiling you for major plot points, but if you enjoy paranormal romances, especially with a young adult focus, you will enjoy these books. And be sure to follow Tiffany on Twitter!
