Because the forest is enchanted with magical flora and deadly fauna, the Queen sends for the only man who has ventured into he woods and survived; a tortured Huntsman called Eric.

With his hope log forsaken, the Huntsman agrees to bring back the girl. But when Eric finds his prey, he hesitates. Will he kill her? Or will he train her to become the greatest warrior the kingdom has ever know?

“He brought his hand on his forehead, nodding as he left. She watched him go. She had seen a kingdom fall, the deaths of so many men and women. Explosions and fire had surrounded her. She’d faced death and returned. Why, then, did she feel such sorrow now, the sadness so great it brought tears to her eyes. He was just one man.” –Snow White and the Huntsman.

It’s because Eric, the Huntsman, is her prince!

*swoons*

I don’t even care that you’re judging me right now because I loved this book. I was home sick from work a few days ago and while lying in bed slowly dying I decided to watch Snow White and the Hunstman on HBO and low and behold I fell madly in love with this movie.

So, of course I went searching on Amazon to see if there was a book because I needed more and guess what, there was! Lily Blake I heart you. Snow White and the Huntsman is based on the motion picture and yet things are slightly different, but more than that, in the book, we get to see what these characters are thinking and feeling.

And that’s the most interesting part isn’t it? We learn so much more about the Huntsman that what we knew in the film. We get to see the anguish he’s feeling, the grief and guilt he carries with him and his changing feelings for Snow White (which of course I love).

I love that we also get a lot more insight into what Snow White is thinking. We get to see how she feels when she first escapes and that she hadn’t originally planned on fighting, but just getting to the safety of the Dukes village. But the further she went, the more obstacles she faced, the more she grew to accept what people were saying about her, that she was special and had her own sacrifices to make.

I love when we see that first glimpse of hero in her. It’s fabulous and striking and it makes me want to believe in something bigger than myself. It draws you in and you can’t very well help it. I adore Blake’s take on what the characters are thinking and feeling. I feel like it went well with the movie and complimented what we saw on screen.

It was believable, hard and a bit gritty, definitely not your average fairytale, but I think that’s what I like most about it. I also loved the added scenes between the Huntsman and Snow White. Especially the one right before he left the village. *dreamy sigh* Then of course the fight at the end was awesome and that small connection they had without words.

Maybe if the Disney version of Snow White had been like this story I would have liked it better when I was a little girl. But this book has struck a chord inside of me and given me a new love for Snow White. The girl is bad ass people. She faces trolls, Ravenna’s men, houses burning down, and rides at the head of an army. The girl is cray, in the best possible way, I love it.

I really enjoyed this book and though there wasn’t much detail concerning William or other characters, I’m okay with that, because the movie did him justice. Plus hello, Team Huntsman here.

Personally I think Snow White should marry the Huntsman, have a bunch of little baby Thor’s and then go out and kick some ass, with the Huntsman by her side because come on every Hero needs her Sidekick. I’ve totally reevaluated my personal fairytale.

Forget Prince Charming ladies(and gents), give me the Huntsman. ;)

  1. I haven't read the book, but I've seen the movie. I wish the movie had more character development, because if it did, I think I would have LOVED it. But I ended up just thinking it was okay.

I might have to look into the book, now, though. Thanks for the review!

    1. Yeah, for a movie that was so long it did sort of lack in development, but I still enjoyed it (who knows why probably Chris haha)

The book was good, I'd like getting to see the thoughts of characters sine the movie didn't really delve into that.

Thanks so much for stopping by! :)

  2. The prince barely featured in the movie, when we came out of the cinema I said this to my friend. Who said "Well, that's why it's "and the Huntsman". A point I guess, but a real love triangle really ought to give the other guys more than a cursory look in...surely. Lol. The book does sound better than the movie in terms of providing more insight into her thoughts.Glad you enjoyed it.

    1. Haha yeah, if you're looking for a love triangle this isn't the right book or movie.

I'm not a huge fan of love triangles haha, so this suited me just fine. The book is definitely better in terms of seeing where the characters heads are at, which is nice.

Thanks so much for stopping by! :)
