Blog Post: Armchair BEA Day 3 Giveaway & Life Changing Literature

Today I'll be giving away three books that I never expected to like, but that stuck with me and were all very Poignant and powerful. [sic] by Scott Kelly, One Pink Line by Dina Silver, and But I Love Him by Amanda Grace aka Mandy Hubbard.

Fiction & Me:

I read a lot of good books. Most of them can be classified as young adult books with supernatural elements. But every once in a while I step so far out of my comfort zone that I wonder what in the world possessed me to pick a book such an off colored book for me. It's when I get that feeling that I know a part of me is about to embark on a wild journey that will take me God only knows where and back.

That being said, the literature that has changed my life are the three books above. Sure I've got favorites that are classics or Contemporary Romance books, but these three here stood for something. They aren't necessarily about romantic love, but rather love for a child, love for oneself, and respecting yourself enough to get out of a bad situation.

Dina Silver has an amazing way with words. She paints this story that you can't help but love. It's realistic and warm and full of rich content that really leaves you feeling good and wanting to call you Mom to tell her you love her for everything she does for you.

Scott Kelly blew my mind with the intricate story he told. The characters were gritty, real and far from perfect. They weren't always nice and they didn't have the picture perfect lives and I think that's why I loved his book so much. It was about a flawed young man, who didn't belong anywhere until he made himself belong.

And Amanda Grace, her book made my yell, cry, laugh, and grit my teeth. Before her book I had never read about abuse before and seeing how people are treated, seeing how it starts, it made me want to reach out and help people wherever I could. It opened my eyes to a world I don't think I ever wanted to know existed. It was a powerful and heartbreaking story. Truly good writing.

I guess to me life changing literature, is literature that makes you think and then act. It's something that compels you into motion. What that motion is...well I'm not sure that matters really, unless is a negative thing you're doing, but hopefully it's not!

  1. I wouldn't go as far as to say it changed my life but yes it affected me in some way. And that's why 'The Truth about Forever' is one of my favorite books.

  3. I have to say that Harry Potter changed my life, especially since I grew up with it. As for more adult fiction I would say Goodnight,Beautiful and My Best Friend's Girl, both by Dorothy Koomson. They are absolutely amazing!

    1. OMG so many people have said that! I seriously need to check the books. I'm typically the type of person that will always read a book before seeing the movie, but surprisingly I've seen all the HP movies and read none of the books.

Oh, My Best Friend's Girl sounds good! Thanks for stopping by Joana. :)

  6. I would say, and it seems like a popular answer, but Harry Potter. I was about 7 or 8 when it first published and they truly opened me up to reading, just in general.

  7. I, too, would say Harry Potter. I read the books long before the movies came out and was a big enough Potterhead that I joined a Harry Potter website where I met my boyfriend who I have been dating now for almost 4 years. I would say that book series definitely changed my life for the better.
