Book Description:

Allison O'Malley's plan is to go to grad school so she can get a good job and take care of her schizophrenic mother. She has carefully closed herself off from everything else, including a relationship with Ethan, who she's been in love with for as long as she can remember.

What is definitely not part of the plan is the return of her long-lost father, who claims he can bring Allison's mother back from the dark place her mind has gone. Allison doesn't trust her father, so why would she believe his stories about a long forgotten Irish people, the Tuatha de Danaan?

But truths have a way of revealing themselves. Secrets will eventually surface. And Allison must learn to set aside her plan and work with her father if there is even a small chance it could restore her mother's sanity.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated or did you always just know you wanted to be a writer?

I don't think I could say exactly when... I just always had a affinity for writing. I'd write in a diary faithfully through highschool. I liked essays and reports more than the average student. I liked making up stories about the books I read, even before I knew what fanfiction was.

When I started writing this book, it was just another one of those things that I did to see if I actually could do it. It was a while after that I decided to try to publish it.

What inspired The Forgotten Ones?

So many things, songs like Because of You by Kelly Clarkson and Far Away by Nickelback (Don't Judge Me!) People I grew up with, all sorts of things in my life end up in my stories, like a collage!

Which came first for you, the characters or the plot?

The characters. The plot has changed many times over the years, but my characters have been true since day one.

Is there anything you found particularly challenging when you were writing The Forgotten Ones?

Fleshing Allison out was hard, because I know her so well, that it's hard to translate that knowledge onto the page. I've been trying to really pay attention to how my favorite authors make such realistic characters, it's like an art form!

If you could be one of your characters from The Forgotten Ones who would it be? Why?

I'd like to be Niamh. She's beautiful and enigmatic. But she doesn't have it easy, she just fakes it really well.

When writing The Forgotten Ones, was there anyone or anything specific that inspired the character Ethan?

Ethan is not really inspired by anyone I know. He's actually been defined by creating Allison's character. He knows all the right buttons to push on her and plays each one ruthlessly. His whole persona is designed just to make him irresistible to her.

In your opinion what three words best describe Allison?

Loyal, tenacious, introverted.

Quickies:

Coffee or Tea?

Coffee

Milk chocolate or Dark?

Dark

Favorite novel and why?

I can't choose one, I just can't. I've been the most affected by Twilight. I don't care what people say, that book changed me.

Hard copy books or e-books? Why?

E-books, I can read anywhere, in any light.

What kind of weather do you write best in?

Doesn't matter. I just need quiet solitude, which is so very rare for me.

Favorite author and why?

I am inspired by Juliet Marillier, her writing is beautiful and flawless.

If you could turn one book or series into films, what would you pick and who would you cast as the main characters?

That's a tough one since most of my favorites are being turned into movies/series. I would like to see Wicked Lovely get optioned again. Melissa Benoist could be Aishlin and Jeremy Sumpter for Keenan. Not sure who could be a good Seth, I'll have to think on that one.

Author Bio:

Laura Howard lives in New Hampshire with her husband and four children. Her obsession with books began at the age of 6 when she got her first library card. Nancy Drew, Sweet Valley High and other girly novels were routinely devoured in single sittings. Books took a backseat to diapers when she had her first child. It wasn’t until the release of a little novel called Twilight, 8 years later, that she rediscovered her love of fiction. Soon after, her own characters began to make themselves known. The Forgotten Ones is her first published novel.
