To be honest, it actually took me awhile to get into "Imperfection.” It wasn't until after I was about a third of the way through the book that things started to get interesting for me. Staying with this whole honesty thing, the start of the book actually kind of pissed me off a bit. When we first meet our main female characters, Meara, Amanda, and Raechel, they're all getting ready to go out drinking for the night.

Normally, three college girls going out drinking wouldn't be a big deal or set off any red flags. However, these three were doing their best to show as much skin as possible in order to score free drinks from the male bar patrons. This being the first introduction to the girls we are about to follow through a story that involves a pregnancy, didn't sit well with me. While reading, I got the impression that the girls were merely props for all the men (not just in the bar scene, but in others as well early on in the story), and it all rubbed the wrong way with me.

Thankfully, as the book wore on, Seabolt started writing the women in a more flattering light and I could see that each of them was in fact strong in her own way. Once Meara finds out that she's pregnant (after a one night stand where she lost her virginity no less!), she steps up to the plate in order to be the best mother she can be, even if that means going against, and distancing herself from, her own family. We're also given the opportunity to see Amanda and Raechel standing up for themselves and being strong women, which I was thankful for. These three quickly grew into themselves, and I was glad that I wasn't forced to read about meek girls who let men walk all over them.

A lot of the back story we get is from different point of view changes that happen throughout the story. While it's mostly told from Meara's perspective, we do get glimpses into what is happening with other characters. This was all done in a way so that the reader could get the full story on what is happening with all of the different werewolf packs (and how Meara fits in to them), as well as how some of our supporting characters are moving the plot.

Something that did throw me during one of the point of view changes though was the random sex scene that happened. I would have understood more if it was involving Meara, but instead it was a supporting character and oddly graphic. The entire tone of the book seemed to change with this chapter, and it almost felt like I had accidentally stumbled upon an erotic novel, instead of a story about werewolves.

We also get scenes that are told through Meara's dreams, which seem to be about how werewolves came to be. While at first these dreams were a bit confusing (to Meara as well as the reader), once we got more information they proved to be and interesting take on the werewolf legend.

Although it took its time to get started, I did enjoy reading "Imperfection.” Once everything was in play and the action started, it proved hard to put the book down until I saw it through to completion. This being the first in the series, it does make sense that the action didn't start until a bit later since everything had to be set up so the reader could understand what was going on.
