Klaus Mikaelson, the original vampire-werewolf hybrid, has returned to New Orleans, the city his family helped build, the city from which he and his siblings – Elijah and Rebekah – were exiled a century ago by their relentless hunter father. Drawn back by a mysterious tip that a plot is brewing against him in the supernatural melting pot that is the French Quarter, Klaus is surprised that the city still feels like home to him despite the decades he’s been away.
Curious as to why Klaus would return to the one place he swore he would never set foot again, Elijah follows his brother and learns that the beautiful and rebellious werewolf Hayley – Klaus’ onetime flame – has also come to the French Quarter searching for clues to her family history. Hayley has fallen into the hands of a powerful witch named Sophie Deveraux. When Sophie reveals to the brothers the almost unbelievable news that Hayley is carrying Klaus’ unborn child, Elijah realizes that the Original family has been given a second chance at humanity and the redemption they desperately crave.
Rebekah wakes inside a sanitarium. She tries to escape and makes it outside only to be staked by Genevieve. Klaus is seen and has a mean cut on his abdomen.
Elijah arrives at the cemetery during Sophie's consecration ceremony and threatens Monique who has a message from Celeste for him. She tells him to follow the instructions to find what he is looking for.
Elijah is back at the compound being enlightened by Marcel that he has every resource out looking for Rebekah and Klaus. He shows Marcel and Hayley the markings and Marcel says it's a riddle. The longer they take to solve it the longer Rebekah and Klaus suffer.
Genevieve slices Klaus open and retrieves the dagger with all smiles.
Genevieve is showing mercy to Klaus and he wonders why. She says she can't help, but pity him. He wants her to betray the others and stand by him. She wants him to see the truth and feeds him Rebekah's tainted blood.
Elijah and Marcel continue to threaten their way to finding an answer to the name riddle. They find success, but Elijah has no idea what it still means. Genevieve tells Rebekah she has linked her and Klaus.
Back down memory lane Klaus watches Rebekah tell Genevieve she wants her to locate Mikael. In the present he screams at her to stop these lies, but she stands by what he has seen.
Marcel comes clean about him and Rebekah when Elijah and Hayley reveal that Clara De Fleur worked at the sanitarium.
Klaus, back in Rebekah's memories watches Genevieve do the spell. He now knows and believes that it was his sister and Marcel who brought Mikael to NOLA.
Celeste confronts Rebekah. Telling her it's too late to do anything. Rebekah realizes Celeste was Clara. They are back in NOLA 1919 and Rebekah is telling Genevieve to reverse the spell, but it doesn't work that way. Genevieve knows now that Rebekah was just using her and they were never friends. Rebekah's to save herself infects both Genevieve and Clara with influenza and compels the orderlies to quarantine them until they die.
Genevieve offers Klaus her blood so he can take his revenge against Rebekah and releases him. He takes the dagger she offers and walks away screaming for Rebekah.
Elijah and Marcel arrive at the sanitarium. Rebekah sees Klaus and starts to run away from him. He taunts her that she can do neither to get away from him.
Celeste is walking out of the sanitarium when she is knocked out by Hayley from behind.
Klaus finds Rebekah. They fight, but she is no match for him. Marcel comes, but he is tossed away like nothing by Klaus. Rebekah defends Marcel telling Klaus she is the one who came up with the plan to summon Mikael. He goes to dagger her, but Elijah arrives and daggers Klaus instead and tells Marcel and Rebekah to run as far as they can.
Next week on The Originals: Le Grand Guignol - Rebekah and Marcel are on the run. Klaus is still incapacitated, but tells Elijah they will pay for this.
