Book Description:

Alexandra Parker might be the most powerful Variant the world has ever seen—but even that won’t get her out of finishing her junior year of high school.

The challenge of keeping her abilities under wraps during class is daunting enough, but throw one surly, sandy-haired Jumper into the mix, and things can get downright complicated.

Declan’s new job? Watch over Alex while she’s at school and do everything in his power to keep her from losing control. But as sparks of every kind begin flying between Alex and her new bodyguard, she's left feeling more unstable than ever.

When avoiding her abilities results in a surprise visit from her parents’ killer, Alex’s worlds collide with a bang that nearly levels Bay View High.

With her freedom now squarely in the Agency’s crosshairs, Alex will be faced with the fight of her life... and a decision that could forever alter the course of her destiny.

Oh my god, where is Declan?!?

Deep breaths.

Okay, I’m not going to explain that little outburst because it would be a super mean spoiler. But oh my god. I can’t even. Jena Leigh is trying to kill me. Okay, okay…I’m calm.

Resistance, the second book in the Variants series picks up just a few days after the first book ends and we see Alex hiding out in her room and trying to come to terms with everything that has happened. I don’t want to give too much away about the book, because this is one of the series that I really think needs to be read first hand to get the full effect of its awesomeness. But I love that all the characters are back and as amazing as ever.

One of my favorite scenes happens at the beginning of the book while Alex, Cassie, and Kenzie are on their way to school. Declan totally cuts them off with his bike and the way the scene is written just comes off so sexy and snarky and I’ve mentioned my ridiculous love for Declan right? Because I do, I totally love him. He’s book boyfriend material.

Leigh does a phenomenal job of continuing this story and adding new layers to it that really further both the character and the plot. I love the interactions between everyone and I despise the Agency. God, I want to crush them. Resistance is a lot more intense than the first book and the pace is a lot faster. We learn so much in this part and poor Alex is so afraid of losing control of her abilities and losing the small amount of freedom she has I just feel terrible for her.

We learn that there are more variants in her school outside of the one’s there to protect her. There’s a lot of action in this book and a bit of romance, though poor Declan and Alex are forever getting interrupted, haha but I have faith they’re get their yaya’s in gear together eventually.

Another one of my favorite scenes happened towards the end of the book and involved a picture of Nathaniel’s. I like when the picture was first given to Alex and when she’s looking at it later on realizing something about Declan. It’s just such a sweet honest moment and Leigh does amazing with these scenes of open emotion. She really is just amazing.

And then of course there’s the end. Cliffhangers make me mildly homicidal! I can’t even…But the cliffhanger was awesome because it refers back to something from the first book that I always wondered about and I think this is where we learn what happened with that thing I wondered about that I’m not going to spoil haha.

I absolutely loved the second part in this series and I can’t wait for the next one. This series is fast becoming one of my favorites and I definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys paranormal books.
