Book Description:

Isabella Swan's move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Isabella's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn.

Up until now, Edward has managed to keep his vampire identity a secret in the small community he lives in, but now nobody is safe, especially Isabella, the person Edward holds most dear. The lovers find themselves balanced precariously on the point of a knife-between desire and danger.

Deeply romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires. This is a love story with bite.

I can still remember the first time I read Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. It was years ago and despite the judgment of many; I genuinely enjoyed the book and re-reading it only proved to cement my love for the Forks and its sparkly inhabitants. I think one of the things I loved most about Twilight is how it sparked my love for werewolves. I’ve always loved vampires, but I never really cared for werewolves, until Jacob Black (and Taylor Lautner).

I liked the intensity between Edward and Bella in the book and how they were inexplicably drawn to each other despite the fact that they weren’t supposed to be together. I also really enjoyed Meyer’s take on vampires. Sure, I wasn’t crazy about the sparkling (I’m sorry, but what kind of scary predator sparkles?) but aside from that I liked the different vampire families and the fact that the light didn’t kill them. It was a refreshing change.

I also really enjoyed the fact that Bella wasn’t perfect. Her character was relatable because she wasn’t super popular, or unnaturally gorgeous. She was a normal person and that’s what made her character so great. Bella was klutzy, fumbled with her words, and very unsure of herself, which honestly is like every other teenager out there.

Bella was also determined and quick witted though and I really appreciated that in a main character. She was strong and didn’t back down even when her life was in danger. She Loved Edward and did what she had to do to be with him.

I also adored the families, both the Cullen’s and the Blacks. I definitely enjoyed how Meyer portrayed Bella’s relationship with her Father and how there was a slow build to getting to know each other. It was incredibly realistic of a Father and Daughter who had been separated for years.

There was also a nice amount of action mixed in with the longing looks and romanticism of first love, which made me ‘aww’ throughout the book. All in all I thought Twilight was a good read and the rest of the books that followed in the series were awesome.

Author Bio:

I was born in Connecticut in 1973, during a brief blip in my family's otherwise western U.S. existence. We were settled in Phoenix by the time I was four, and I think of myself as a native. The unusual spelling of my name was a gift from my father, Stephen (+ ie = me). Though I have had my name spelled wrong on pretty much everything my entire life long, I must admit that it makes it easier to google myself now.

I filled the "Jan Brady" spot in my family-the second of three girls. Unlike the Brady's, none of my three brothers are steps, and all of them are younger than all the girls. I went to high school in Scottsdale, Arizona, the kind of place where every fall a few girls would come back to school with new noses and there were Porsches in the student lot (for the record, I have my original nose, and never had a car until after I was in my twenties).

I was awarded a National Merit Scholarship, and I used it to pay my way to Brigham Young University, in Provo, Utah. I majored in English, but concentrated on literature rather than creative writing, mostly because I didn't consider reading books "work" (as long as I was going to be doing something anyway, I might as well get course credit for it, right?).
