I adore a good romantic comedy, both in movies and books and Waking Up Married by Mira Lyn Kelly was exactly what I was looking for on this super snowy day. Conservative Megan is in Vegas for her cousin’s wedding attempting to mind her own business and keep her head down, but thanks to the interference of her cousin’s bridesmaid’s things get a little wilder than she intended.

Conner is fresh out of a relationship of convenience and determined to get lost in his alcohol and have a good time with his best friend, until he runs into Megan or more accurately she runs into him. I really liked how they met. In so many stories you have the guy initially being the aggressor, but when Megan introduced herself to him only to shut up the other girls she was with I was glad Conner didn’t let her go without spending some time getting to know each other.
I also liked how the book started with them already married and sort of rewind time in the first couple of chapters giving us pieces of the puzzle so we could see what happened the previous night. I enjoyed the quick wit between Megan and Conner and their constant banter made me grin. I was so happy that Kelly made Megan smart and independent.

So often you see the main character falling for the main guy immediately, but here we got to see her put up a fight and Conner had to earn her trust, respect, and love. The fact that she didn’t just come out a sleep with him was good too, the sexual tension was incredibly intense and well worth the wait when they finally got together.

While I loved the plot and pacing of Waking Up Married, I think the only real issue I had through the story was how old fashioned Conner seemed. Now don’t get me wrong, I loved Conner’s possessive side and I loved how much he cared about Megan.

But he was overly pushy in some scenes to the point of railroading over Megan’s feelings, sort of like he was dictating things. And while I’m all for the guy taking charge, I felt like someone as independent as Megan would have but up a bit more fight. That being said the ending of this book made my heart warm and gave me exactly what I was looking for from this book.

Waking Up Married was chock full of fun, snark, and love. The perfect mix for a quick read. I’d definitely recommend this book to my readers.

Author Bio:

USA Today bestselling author Mira Lyn Kelly grew up in the Chicago area and earned her degree in Fine Arts from Loyola University. She met the love of her life while studying abroad in Rome, Italy, only to discover he’d been living right around the corner from her for the previous two years. Having spent her twenties working and playing in the Windy City, she’s now settled with her husband in rural Minnesota where their four beautiful children provide an excess of action, adventure, and entertainment.

With writing as her passion and inspiration striking at the darnedest times, Mira can always be found with a notebook at the ready. (More than once she’s been caught by the neighbors, covered in grass clippings, scribbling away atop the compost container!)

When she isn’t reading, writing, or running to keep up with the kids, she loves watching movies, blabbing with the girls, and cooking with her husband and friends.
