Book Description:

After dating her childhood sweetheart Max on and off for years, aspiring actress Nicola Charles is finally ready to move on. It’s time for her to focus on her stage career and stay away from Max–before he can break her heart again.

Max regrets hurting Nicola, but he wants another chance. So when his play loses its leading lady, giving Nicola the part seems like the perfect opportunity to win back his old flame.

But the course of true love—and a theater production—never do run smooth. As Max fights to reignite Nicola’s love, the onstage antics can’t rival the bedlam backstage: a neurotic cast, a prickly crew, and an evil diva of a director who’s got designs on Max.

As Nicola and Max battle to keep the drama onstage, Max can’t help wondering if their romance will end with the last performance. Or have the two of them finally captured what they’ve dreamed of all their lives? True Love.

A contemporary romance that should appeal to fans of the wry humor and playful sexiness in the works of Julie James and Victoria Dahl.

Top 5 Reunited Lovers

Since my book A Midsummer Night's Fling is about a pair of reunited lovers (they were sweethearts in high school and college), I thought it would be fun to talk about my Top 5 Reunited Lovers of All Time.

5. Fred and Lily from Kiss Me Kate

"Deceive me, desert me, I'm yours 'til I die…so in love with you am I." My favorite musical and my favorite feuding lovers. I grew up watching the 1950s version with Howard Keel. These two are immature, tempestuous, spoiled, and perfect for each other. You certainly wouldn't wish them on anyone else.

4. Navarre and Isabeau from Ladyhawke

"Do you know that hawks and wolves mate for life? The Bishop didn't even leave us that... not even that." One of my favorite movies as a teenager. The curse on these two is so poignant: "always together, eternally apart." She's cursed to be a hawk during the day; he's cursed to be a wolf during the night. When they're finally together again as humans in the end it makes me cry. Every. Time.

If I Had A Dollar

If I had a dollar for all the times I failed as a writer, I would be rich. I wouldn’t be writing this post because I would be lounging on my yacht with my loaded Kindle and some really hot crew chartering our course to Tropical Happy Awesomeness (yep, that’s a real place).

Alas, sadly, I don’t. So—sigh—no hot crew members for me. But. And it’s a big but, I totally wouldn’t have this—this post I’m writing. Or the near to my heart story that comes out June 23rd. Or the other manuscripts in my cue, or all the amazing people I’ve met along the way.

There are a lot of things I can say about writing, and about how many times you fail before you finally get something right. And I will tell you, I am surprised by all of them. But mostly I am surprised by the people you meet along the way. This isn’t a cut throat business, this isn’t a competitive professional sports team, this isn’t a water cooler gossip fest (well, okay maybe just a little bit of gossip).

The Original Posers

I have always thought “pose” a nice word - firm, artistic, even stately. For instance, one poses for a photograph. One poses to model clothing, or for an artist’s brush.

A few years ago, my kids started using the word “poser.” Being the inquisitive and sharp-witted person that I am, I quickly picked up on the sarcastic nuance. Further scrutiny revealed that “poser” meant one who pretends to be something he is not.

So I kind of got used to that.

But last Thursday changed everything. I stumbled over the true meaning of the word when I accidentally took a yoga class.

I went to the gym anticipating an interval-cardio class, but I’d looked at the wrong schedule. The class about to begin was “Bodyflow” which is actually yoga with a few other things thrown in that I cannot pronounce. It included mats and bare feet.

Book Description:

Cassidy Hart is alone.

Her Commander and the love of her life, Chris Young, has gone missing in action. A horrific battle with Omega has left too many good men and women dead, and Cassidy must bear the burden of leadership in the militia on her own.

But she’s not about to give up.

With the help of her faithful friends – and former enemies – she will stop at nothing to rescue Chris and ensure victory for the militias in their fight against the all-powerful Omega forces.

The game has shifted. This time, Cassidy is one step ahead of the enemy.

This time, Cassidy is in charge.

Taking Control

One of the coolest things about State of Pursuit is that Cassidy must be totally and completely independent. She’s gone from being a naïve teenager to a kick-butt sniper in the National Guard, and this is the first time she answers to no one but herself. She is in control, and that premise was exciting for me as a writer.

Cassidy’s character growth has been a real journey for me – very real. She has grown as the series has grown, and to finally see her step up and take charge has been the critical moment in this story that I’ve been waiting for.

The Artful Guide to the City

New York City 2025 isn’t the place of glitz and glam that it used to be. The city that never sleeps is pretty much the city that never breaths. No more tourists blocking up Times Square, taking pictures of God knows what. No longer are the trains filled with both late passengers and uncomfortable smells. There’s no more hustle and bustle… there’s rarely a bustle. But most noticeable is the silence, the silence that fill the city streets is quite unsettling. That being said, if you, dear reader should still choose to visit New York City, here is a handy guide of things to avoid and sites to see… before you die of sickness, or scavenger attack.

Grand Central: Grand Central was once a busy station where people came in and out of the city. Travelling on business or pleasure, it didn’t matter, this was a mecca of diversity and you could see it all here; people from all walks of life as they travelled about their day. Now, Grand Central is a shanty town made up of people who were lucky enough to find its safe dwellings. Only accessible from the subway stations and treacherous tunnels of the underground, it offers a great sense of security. It is also said to be where the Gutter Punks make their home.

Central Park: What was once a beautiful park situated in the center of the city is now a wild land. Over grown with unkempt vegetation and reckless abandonment the park is not what it once was. It is overrun by the ferocious beasts that were once confined to cages of the Central Park Zoo, but now prowl the shadows looking for a human feast. The park is also the home of the Runts, a group of feral children who live like a pack of wolves. Their alpha, a boy named Peter, is said to be a child prodigy who protects his cubs, not with strength but intellect.

One fateful night, Rosalyn bewitches Niles, a stylish man whose offbeat character perfectly complements her own. Unfortunately, he possesses a critical flaw that means relationship suicide for him and pretty much anyone.

While under the influence of insomnia-impaired judgment, Rosalyn summons Rock ‘n Roll deity Peter Lane back from the dead. Not only does he spin her hormones into a frenzy, Peter is also the precarious puzzle piece that brings sense into her world. When Niles learns that he can overcome his life-long challenge by helping Peter avenge his death, how far will he go to secure Rosalyn’s heart?

Why I Went Mod

By Diane Rinella

Since I announced the release of Scary Modsters I’ve been repeatedly asked, “Why did you make deceased rock star Peter Lane a mod? Why not go more modern?”

In the early 1960’s we had just gotten out of the bobby sox and saddle shoes phase and were looking to Jackie O for style tips. Fashions weren't exactly risky. When Peter's popularity started all of that was changing. Mary Quant, a fashion designer out of London, created revolutionary styles, color combinations, and high hemlines that have never left us. The mod look propelled fashion forward and signaled that the world was changing. It was sort of the shot heard around the world.

Book Description:

Love definitely wasn’t on the setlist.

Opening for their idols on their first tour, Oblivion is living the dream. Mostly. Frustrated at being shoved out of his mediator role by their new manager, Deacon McCoy loses himself in brutal workouts. He only comes up for air long enough to refuel—and to tease the deliciously cute chef who makes him crave a lot more than what she’s offering on her serving plate.

As the child of roadie parents, Harper Pruitt has heard every pickup line twice. To her, musicians are one step above the scraps on her cutting board. All she wants is to get enough experience to run her own catering company, but Deacon and his bottomless stomach are too tempting to resist. He’s far from the typical rock star and before long, she finds herself experimenting with him, inside and out of the kitchen.

Apron – and panties – optional.

When Harper sees that Deacon’s dream band with his best friends may be turning into a nightmare, she can’t walk away. Deacon’s so much more than just a peacemaker and the man behind the bass. But she has her own dreams to chase…even if she’s starting to think what she’s building with him might be the biggest one of all.

Music

Music. Such a big word encompassed in so few letters. It covers a multitude of genres, just like novels do. It’s also the cornerstone of my writing. One of the first things Cari and I discovered about each other was our deep and abiding love for music. Some authors write to silence, some write to the sounds of nature, some can write with a toddler playing beside them on a playmat. For us? It’s a soundtrack.

The story builds out of the playlist we create for each storyline. Sometimes not every song stays on the playlist. It’s as fluid as our plotlines sometimes. LOL

Why Guys Should Read Chick Lit

What most guys don’t know, is that women’s fiction has a lot on offer. I don’t think I’m being presumptuous about the reading habits of XYs. My husband (who has earned his title of “beditor”) wouldn’t be caught dead reading *girl* stuff, unless I convince him otherwise.

His biggest complaint is that “women sure do think a lot.” That’s right, we do. Live and learn, hombres.

Exploring the subplot of Transformed with E.V. Fairfall:

Hey you guys, E.V. here. I wanted to tell you a little about my book Transformed because, aside from the typical coming of age story, it is a book of self discovery in many other ways. The subplot of Transformed has an aspect of religion.

Religion is a huge part of the world; not only are there many religions out there, but also within each religion people believe and adopt different practices.

That is the reason why I felt compelled to incorporate it, even though another part of me wanted to leave it alone. Through the course of writing Transformed, I’ve studied religion. I’ve taken cultural diversity classes and religious studies classes.

BIGFOOT

Beyond the symbolic, I’ve always been fascinated by plain old scary monsters with big teeth. I’m especially into the ones we only see in glimpses and therefore make bigger in our imaginations. So of course my all time fave book character is Boo Radley from To Kill a Mockingbird. My Boo Radley is our own Seattle-area legend of Sasquatch.

I can’t say much more about that without spoiling the best scenes in the book. I’ll just say that my own experience with him is through two of my students who went looking for him for a class project. They either found him, or they found something that looked, sounded, and smelled like him, because they came back shaking and pale and quickly grew tired of talking about it.

10 Things You Didn't Know About Tellulah Darling

1) I am too lazy to learn songs properly, choosing instead to just fit whatever word seems closest to the phonetic sound I hear. This means that nothing I sing makes any logical sense. However, they are all wildly creative. Every once in a while I actually figure out what the words are supposed to be and realize how much sense the song now makes. What's funny is that there are certain songs I'm suck in a perpetual loop with. I learn what they are, promptly forget and go back to my nonsense, and then have that deja vu moment when I understand them again. Maybe I was dropped on my head as a child.

2) I love to travel but hate flying. As a result, I spent much of my life gripping the arms of my airplane seat while whispering "please don't fall" for hours on end. Happily, my doctor informed me a couple years ago (while staring at me like I was an idiot upon hearing how I coped) that since my way didn't work, I might want to try drugs. Miracles of modern science, indeed!

3) Speaking of travel–the first time I went to Italy, I was 15 yrs old. We were in Heathrow waiting for our flight to Rome and I'd fallen asleep stretched out across the chairs at the departure area. I woke up to the sight of the Italian National Football (Soccer) team seated around me. Even at that tender age, I was partial to that particular flavour of man candy. So I shot up and might have tried to shove my little brother under a seat in an attempt to look like a worldly solo traveller. Yeah, right. I wish you all a similar wake up call with *insert group of hot men of your choice*.

Love of Christmas and What Inspired A Christmas Fling: A Magical Tale of Romance and Adventure

Thanks Corina for having me on your blog to give a shout out about my new sweet paranormal romance novella, A Christmas Fling, and for having me write about my love of Christmas and what inspired this story.

When I was a child, I love how we celebrated Christmas. My parents created wonderful stockings for us four kids. We’d get up early on Christmas morning and hurry to our stockings. The gifts were off limits until our parents woke up. Us four kids would sit on the rug and open our stockings – usually long boy socks. We’d all get some of the same things: tangerines, almonds and pecans in their shells, candy canes, and chocolate kisses.

Then there’d be little gifts specific to each child. I often got colored pens or pencils. I loved to color. One younger brother would get toy cars; the other young brother got blocks, I think. My young sister would get a doll or doll clothes. After enjoying the chocolates, nuts and tangerines, and the gifts, we’d play card games for hours until my parents woke up.

Writing under the London Casey name, I’m given the chance to really explore the new adult genre. With The Boys of Down Crash, I loved writing about rockstars and all that comes with their life through the eyes of a band that’s growing. My next series doesn’t have rockstars in it. It’s a very deeper series, dealing with more issues and focuses more on the characters than the last new adult trilogy I wrote.

I have put together a few mysterious and intriguing urban legends about the Spellbound series that surround the cursed town of Fallen Oaks, California…

Urban Legend #1

Some researchers believe that certain demon races are actually the disembodied spirits of the Nephilim. (They are also considered to be Shadow People.) The origination of the Nephilim began with the legend of an archangel named Raziel. Urban legend states that Raziel escorted a sect of angels that were to instruct humans in morality.

An Erotic Thriller! ME?

If you’d have asked me so much as a year ago if I’d ever write erotica I’d have told you that you were crazy! As a relationship guru, (they call me the “Voice of Dating, Mating, and Relating”), I usually write self-help/relationship books like “When Your Perfect Partner Goes Perfectly Wrong,” “The Seven Secrets of Love,” or “Get Out of Your Boxx!”

I suppose, one of my other ones, “Please Dear, Not Tonight: The Truth About Women and Sex” should have helped me see that a trend in my topics was definitely evolving, but a NOVEL? A very dark, steamy novel, no less? Me? The gal who went to nursing school decades ago, never realizing I was going to end up “nursing” people’s relationships, including founding the Intimacy College where I teach men about women in the bedroom and women about themselves! (My mother is probably rolling over in her grave as we speak!)

Hell, I’d never even written fiction before! Much less steamy fiction! With a dark, dangerous, and scary-as-hell sexual predator, no less!

Well, OK. I’ll tell you why I wrote an erotic thriller … I read “Fifty Shades of Grey” and it pissed me off! (Honestly – not kidding!)

Dreaming and its Roles in Writing

In writing, we have many tools at our disposal. Editors, agents, and publishing houses. Writing reference books, English and literature courses, instructors, pre-existing stories from which to pull inspiration, and a world of other authors who are invaluable and quite often friendly and helpful in navigating the business end. We have bloggers, and their diligent work. And we have a world full of information all around us from which to pull ideas, plots, and the mechanics necessary for fabricating entire artificial worlds and universes and beyond.

And whose to say those creations aren’t alternate realities the moment we put pen to paper, or even before that. Whose to say an entire parallel dimension isn’t instantaneously created the moment we begin to imagine them up?

But we also have, Dreams.

A witch brings him back to life, but Nicholas soon realizes he's not the same man. Turns out, magic combined with a black hellebore in his pocket changed him into a kind of a super man.

His girlfriend's twin, Julianna Paige, is Falledge's deputy, struggling to solve several murders. Nicholas, and his alter ego the Black Hellebore, helps her, even as she helps him move on and even start to love again.

Unfortunately, Nicholas wasn't the only one changed in the laboratory explosion, and now there's a supervillain bent on destroying Falledge, and killing the Black Hellebore. But falling in love might prove more dangerous than any supervillain.

What is a Superhero and What Makes Nick a Good One?

A superhero is more than a man with superpowers. After all, super villains have superpowers too. Some superheroes, like Iron Man and Batman, don’t have superpowers at all. What sets superheroes apart is their heart, their desire to help right wrongs, their cause for justice. A superhero strives to make the world a better place.

Nicholas Adams never intended to become a superhero. He had no idea why he could run so fast or where his strength came from. It frightened him. For so long, Nicholas relied on no one but himself. Going from job to job, with no aim, no purpose, traveling from town to town. Now, he had a chance to help others more than he had ever received.

Book Description:

Previously homeschooled Camie Ramsey is being shoved into the shark-infested waters of public high school, where even helium filled, penguin bespeckled arm floaties likely won’t help keep her inexperienced, fifteen-year old head above water in that rip current of hormones and emotions.

Camie’s worldly wisdom might be severely lacking (i.e., the closest she’s come to being kissed was sitting too close to the TV whilst Jake Ryan leaned in to give Samantha that fateful 16th birthday kiss), but she does understand her only hope for survival is if she’s thrown some kind of “social” life preserver before she sinks like a freaking rock.

However, what will her fate be when she endeavors to flag down the only lifeguard on duty, the enormously popular and ridiculously beautiful Tristan Daniels? The most sought after and virtually most unattainable guy in school who not only makes Camie’s heart flatline on a recurring basis, he’s also the one guy who seemingly doesn’t know she exists.

Feeling like an inept piece of chum that could ultimately be swallowed by Jaws, can Camie get Tristan to rescue her from floundering in the treacherous deep, or is she destined to be Shark Bait?

“Because you’re eventually gonna wake up and it’s gonna be tough for him to trust you again as it is, I’m gonna do you this one favor…I’m not gonna tell Tristan you let his girlfriend go off with some guy none of you even know, but if I were you, I’d start praying right fucking now while you’re down there to every fucking God who’ll listen that nothing happens to her and that she makes it home tonight without a single hair out of place, because if something happens, you and I both know, no witness protection program, no amount of running or hiding will stop him or Jillian from hunting you down and when, not if, when they find you, nothing on this earth will keep you even remotely safe.” ~ Shark Out of Water, Chapter 6 – Subchapter; Let’s get ready to RUUMMMMBLLLE!
