We'd like to thank Andrea Heltsley for stopping by and talking about Devour with us as well as her writing.
Do you recall how your interest in writing originated or did you always just know you wanted to be a writer?
I've always wanted to be a writer but was told there was no money in it. I went on to get my Bachelor's in Biology and worked as a scientist until one day, I just changed my mind and decided writing was it for me.
What inspired Devour?
I wanted to write a vampire book. I didn't want it to be dark or gory. I came up with the idea and ran with it. It took 8 weeks to write total.
Which came first for you, the characters or the plot?
The plot this time, normally it's the other way around.
Is there anything you found particularly challenging when you were writing Devour?
It was supposed to be a standalone novel, but it was hard to tie up the story without leaving some sort of opening at the end. I will probably revisit this book from another character's POV.
If you could be one of your characters from any of your books, who would you chose? Why?
Definitely Callie. Even as constricted everything is, she has a lot to live for.
When writing Devour, was there anyone or anything specific that inspired the character Chase?
Actually, Damon on Vampire Diaries gave me his character idea. I am in love with Ian Somerhalder ;)
(OMG so am I! Damon is my favorite!)
In your opinion what three words best describe Callie?
Boy crazy, royalty, evolving
Coffee or Tea?
Coffee most definitely
Milk chocolate or Dark?
Favorite novel and why?
Alice in Wonderland. It's so creative.
Hard copy books or e-books? Why?
eBooks. So much easier to handle ;)
What kind of weather do you write best in?
Spring and Summer
Favorite author and why?
Tough! Kiera Cass right now, but itchanges.
If you could turn one book or series into films, what would you pick and who would you cast as the main characters?
I would love to see the Selection made into a movie. All those beautiful dresses and two gorgeous guys? Awesome! I would chose Allison Sudol, lead singer of A Fine Frenzy as America. Not sure which guys I would pick, there are so many that would rock it!
A big thanks to Andrea for stopping by and talking with us! For more information on her and her books check out the links below!
I am a biology nerd who decided it was more fun writing than dissecting. I have written three novels and four more will be out in 2013. I live on coffee and read like a robot. My husband and two italian greyhounds usually have to tear me away from the computer...imagine that. :)
