Melissa's View that Halloween is the Best

Halloween is absolutely amazing. If you live in a 'Mean Girls' world, it's the one time of the year you can dress up like a slut and no one will shame you for it, but there's more to it than that. Halloween, as well as the weeks leading up to it, is the one time of year that you can shed your boring life and live in a fantasy world.

For most of the year, everyone is stuck at their boring jobs, or slaving away at school, and just living from one day to the next. But Halloween? Halloween is something to look forward to. Costumes, parties, pumpkins (carving them, eating pies, pumpkin spice coffee), ghosts and ghouls and other monsters, and candy seem to invade the world during the month of October, and I am okay with it.

Have you always wanted to be a princess? A pirate? Or ever think you've been born in the wrong decade and were really meant to be a flapper or a disco diva? Or have you always wanted to rock a poodle skirt? This is your time of year. Halloween makes it okay for adults to play dress up just like we did when we were children and there's no judgment.

No one is too old or too young for Halloween. Everyone from babies in pumpkin outfits to grandpas in Frankenstein's monster costumes join in on the fun, and that's one of the many things I love about this holiday. It's for everyone, and there's something that can cater to everyone's tastes.

There are just so many things to do when it comes to this holiday. Fall and October and Halloween is the time of year for pumpkin carving, bobbing for apples, costume parties, horror movies, guided ghost tours, haunted houses, trick or treating, and more. If you aren't the type who likes to go out in the chilly fall weather dressed up like Little Red Riding Hood, then you can curl up on the couch with some hot chocolate, a piece of pumpkin pie, and watch your favorite scary movie with your friends.

And if you are the type who wants to get dressed up and go out? Have some fun with it. Go out to the bars with your friends and take a drink every time you see someone dressed as Miley Cyrus. Take an extra drink if the costume somehow includes a wrecking ball. Finish your drink if the person dressed as Miley is actually a dude, because you'll probably need to drown out that image out with alcohol (do you like that game? I just made it up, and I'm totally going to partake in it on Thursday night. We can compare notes next week).

I'm a big fan of the strange, which is more reason why Halloween is my favorite holiday. This is the one time of the year where you can walk into a bar and see Jason Voorhees, Harry Potter, and Tinkerbell sharing stories and laughing over a bucket of beer and not bat an eyelash. How cool is that?

Let's also take a moment to talk about all of the candy. This is the one time of the year that makes it okay to take candy from strangers without it being creepy or without fear of sketchy vans. Even if you don't trick or treat anymore, there's still candy EVERYWHERE. I know at my house, we've been stocking up on the trick or treater candy since September, and I make it my mission to taste test it all of the time. Supermarkets flood the aisles with the prepackaged deliciousness that is chocolate for this time, and they're even good enough to supply us with party mixes that aren't normally there year-round.

Halloween is so awesome that it even has a holiday built in the night before. For those of you who don't know, tonight is Mischief Night. Traditionally only celebrated by teenagers and preteens causing pranks, Mischief Night is a time to be a little bad. Why should the teenagers have all the fun? Go out and do something a little naughty tonight (nothing too crazy, we're not trying to get anyone arrested or ruin lives or anything). Start the Halloween celebration a bit early and go out for a few drinks on a Wednesday (crazy, I know).

I hope you all have a fun and safe Halloween this year, and don't let the fact that Halloween is on a Thursday deter you. Cause your mischief tonight, and then dress up and go out tomorrow. Don't you still have a few sick days left at work to use on Friday?

And don't forget to check out my playlist I made for this lovely occasion. You can find it Here
