Angie's Favorite Supernatural Fictional Characters

Favorite Supernatural Characters

People who know me well are familiar with the shows I watch and the genres I prefer. Most of my television addictions involve the supernatural in some way, shape or form. And because this is Halloween month, I’ve compiled a list of my favorite supernatural or supernatural-related characters.

Let’s start with the characters of days gone by.

1. The Pod Squad from Roswell. Max and Isabel Evans and Michael Guerin, aliens from a planet called Anatar. I don’t know if aliens technically count as being supernatural, but they’re making the list anyway. Max could heal people who were sick or injured by simply placing his hand on them. Isabel could visit people’s dreams (and let’s face it, that is COOL). Michael mostly blew stuff up, but it wasn’t intentional.

2. Cordelia Chase, Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel. I think two kinds of Buffy/Angel fans exist. One kind loves Cordelia with ferocity and the other passionately hates her. I definitely fall in the first category. Watching her grow from a selfish, snobby coward into a caring, brave Seer for the Powers That Be was awesome. I maintain my opinion that out of ALL the characters from the two series’, Cordelia was the one who showed the most character growth overall.

Dragged back into the center of the Family's politics, she searches for the missing Family member along with Bach who is still deeply bitter from her apparent callousness.

Traveling through the decaying human world, Wisteria and Bach uncover more truths about RZC Bio Technologies, Wisteria's complex family, Bach's mother and their seemingly impossible bond. And pay a very high price.

Aporia by Bisi Leyton is the third book in the Wisteria series and by far the best one so far in my opinion. Aporia basically picks up where it left off in Myopia. Back is still attempting to heal while living in the Isle of Smythe. But their down time doesn’t exactly last long. Bach’s brothers and Enric make their way to the Isle to tell Wisteria that Bach is dying and the only way to save him is to send him back to his home world to regenerate.

But of course the only way to make Bach leave Wisteria is to make him hate her. The whole thing was incredibly painful to read, the way she treated him and everything that happened. I know she was just doing it to save Bach and protect her Mother, but still It was all super sad. There are a few time jumps in the story and once Bach finally does leave I believe it’s two years until he and Wisteria see each other again.

Playlist: 13 Days of Halloween

Whether you're stuck at home passing out candy this Halloween, or throwing a costume party- you're going to need the right music to set the correct mood.

Halloween is so many things to so many people, and it ranges from the spooky scary stuff, to the wild and fun aspects of life. So why not have a playlist that encompasses all of that?

Below are 13 (seemed like a fitting number for the occasion) songs I've put together to have a great time this Halloween, and it's not the same ol' "Monster Mash" list that's been around for years.

Review: Darkhouse

Darkouse (Experiment in Terror #1) by Karina Halle
Age Group: Adult
Genre: Horror, Paranormal
Release Date: May 9th, 2011
Buy Links:

Amazon (the kindle version is free!) ♥ B&N

Book Description:

There's always been something a bit off about Perry Palomino. Though she's been dealing with a quarter-life crisis and post-college syndrome like any other twentysomething, she's still not what you would call "ordinary." For one thing, there's her past which she likes to pretend never happened, and then there's the fact that she sees ghosts.

Luckily for her, that all comes in handy when she stumbles across Dex Foray, an eccentric producer for an upcoming webcast on ghost hunters. Even though the show's budget is non-existent and Dex himself is a maddening enigma, Perry is instantly drawn into a world that both threatens her life and seduces her with a sense of importance.

Her uncle's haunted lighthouse provides the perfect catalyst and backdrop for a horrific mystery that unravels the threads of Perry's fragile sanity and causes her to fall for a man, who, like the most dangerous of ghosts, may not be all that he seems.

*Darkhouse and the Experiment in Terror series is a horror/romance for mature audiences only. Readers who are easily offended by harsh language should think twice about reading it.*

When I read Darkhouse it was back in May and it was the first book by Karina Halle that I’ve read and I was pleasantly surprised with her writing style. She made me laugh (I love a good sarcastic comebacks), made me feel scared (there were a few times I had to pause and put the book down for a little while) and wrote the characters in such a way that I felt connected right away. I was drawn into this series after it coming up in a search for books for one of the tv/read posts and was not disapointed.

When "The Cabin in the Woods" was released in theatres in 2012, I wanted to see it. Badly. The reviews were good, the trailer made everything look promising, and it was written by Joss Whedon (which was obviously the seal on the deal for me). However, with my work schedule and conflicts with my friends' schedules, I wasn't able to watch it while it was still playing in theatres.

Fast forward to October 2013 and my friend and I just got home from doing some Halloween costume shopping and wanted to watch a movie. Guess what's on Netflix, kids! So even if you don't want to go out and buy or rent (yes, you can still rent videos) "The Cabin in the Woods", just log on to your Netflix and take a gander, because it is worth it.

I'm going to try really hard not to spoil anything about this movie for those of you who haven't seen it yet, because it is best to see it without knowing too much about the plot twists and turns. This definitely isn't your average horror movie, and you may be sitting there confused at points, but it's all part of the fun!

The movie focuses mainly on five teenagers, who all fit into the five categories of the stereotypical horror movie cast. You've got the dumb, horny blonde, the alpha-male jock, the cute brainiac, the stoner, and the virginal girl-next-door. These five friends take a trip to a cabin for the weekend, expecting nothing but parties, drinking, and sex, but in true horror movie fashion, things don't go as planned.

Review: Asylum

Asylum by Madeleine Roux
Age Group: Young Adult
Genre: Horror, Paranormal Mystery
Release Date: August 20, 2013

Book Description:

Asylum is a thrilling and creepy photo-novel perfect for fans of the New York Times bestseller Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.

For sixteen-year-old Dan Crawford, New Hampshire College Prep is more than a summer program—it's a lifeline. An outcast at his high school, Dan is excited to finally make some friends in his last summer before college. But when he arrives at the program, Dan learns that his dorm for the summer used to be a sanatorium, more commonly known as an asylum. And not just any asylum—a last resort for the criminally insane.

As Dan and his new friends, Abby and Jordan, explore the hidden recesses of their creepy summer home, they soon discover it's no coincidence that the three of them ended up here. Because the asylum holds the key to a terrifying past. And there are some secrets that refuse to stay buried.

Featuring found photos of unsettling history and real abandoned asylums and filled with chilling mystery and page-turning suspense, Madeleine Roux's teen debut, Asylum, is a horror story that treads the line between genius and insanity.

I read Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children back when it first came out and fell in love with the mixing of historical photographs with a fantasy/paranormal story, so when I heard about a similar concept coming out set in a spooky old mental hospital I knew that I wanted to read it in October when I like to overdose on horror books. While I really like the idea behind this book, I felt like my expectations might have been set too high. It’s also one of the few times I’ve branch out into a male POV story.
