Book Description:

For twenty-three years, Cross Carlson was a playboy. You know the type. Tall, dark, and wealthy. Blue-eyed. Charming. He seemed to have it all so easy. But Cross was harboring a terrible secret - one that helped ruin the life of an innocent girl and almost ended his own.

Finally out of the hospital, Cross is flailing, scarred in both body and mind and stifled by the weight of the secret he still keeps. The only way to absolution lies in a Mexican convent, and going there could cost him everything.

If there's anyone who knows what it's like to screw up big time, it's Meredith Kinsey. Just a few years ago, Merri was an ordinary girl with a job at her college newspaper and white picket fence kind of dreams. Now she's holed up in a Mexican convent, hiding from a drug lord who thinks he owns her.

What happens when the only way out of hell is with the son of the man who put you there? They say love conquers all, but does it really?

I adore this series.

For those of you who read Selling Scarlet by Ella James, Cross Carlson isn’t new, but we see an entirely different side of him in Taming Cross, a side that I thoroughly enjoyed. He came off as kind of cocky and self-assured in Selling Scarlet, but here we get to see the aftermath of his accident or rather sabotage from his point of view.

Cross is still struggling with the part his Father played in the whole mistress being sold off into sex slavery thing and we can understand why. He feels bad and he’s been holding onto this secret for over a year. Cross feels like it’s time to do something about it so, he sets off to find Meredith Kinsey and right the wrong he committed by not saying anything about his Father’s involvement in her disappearance.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated or did you always just know you wanted to be a writer?

I remember being about 8 and hauling my dad's briefcase underneath my parents' bed so I could see what was in it. As I was reading through some of his scholarly papers, I was really impressed that my dad—a fairly Southern man who didn't seem very formal to me—could write like that. I thought, 'I want to do that, too!' To me, his articulate writing seemed like a super power. Around the same age, I became totally addicted to reading. I liked books more than anything (by far) and I knew at some point I wanted to write them.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated or did you always just know you wanted to be a writer?

I've always expressed myself much better in writing. I used to write this crushingly emotional poems and then never share them with anyone. My mom's been cleaning out my room and has been laughing at all the angst I had as a teenager. I wrote my first full length novel at 22, so I think its always been rambling around in my brain.

Book Description:

Julianne counts the days until she can pack her bags and leave her old-money, tradition-bound Southern town where appearance is everything and secrecy is a way of life. A piano virtuoso, she dreams of attending a prestigious music school in Boston. Failure is not an option, so she enlists the help of New England Conservatory graduate Isaac Laroche to help her.

She can’t understand why he suddenly gave up Boston’s music scene to return to the South. He doesn’t know her life depends on escaping it. Julianne must face down madness from without, just as it threatens from within. Isaac must resist an inappropriate attraction, but an indiscretion at a Mardi Gras ball-the pinnacle event for Mobile’s elite-forces their present wants and needs to collide with sins of the past.

Will Julianne accept the help she’s offered and get everything she ever wanted, or will she self-destruct and take Isaac down with her?

♥ ♥ ♥

Want by Stephanie Lawton follows 17-year-old Julianne as she attempts to get into New England Conservatory (NEC) in Boston while dealing with her Mother’s abusive outbursts, her lack of friends, and her quickly deteriorating state of mind.

Her piano playing is her only escape from the crappy hand she was dealt in life and Juli is determined to get into NEC no matter the cost. So, when her piano teacher Mr. Cline has a stroke and his nephew, Isaac, comes to town to pick up her teaching where Mr. Cline left off, Juli is determined to make the most of it despite her trepidation.

I’m having incredibly mixed feelings about this story. On the one hand Lawton is a very talented writer. Her descriptions of things and the words and images she uses to describe Isaac’s music and Juli’s as well is literally breathtaking. But the actual story left me wanting. Technically this could be an issue of mine, but had I known that Isaac was 27-28 (he has a birthday in the book) and Juli was 17 before I started reading, then I most likely would not have chosen to read the book.

As tempting as a sugar-coated beignet, Jason is one dish she can’t afford to taste. Colby can’t wait to leave the place where her distrust of love and commitment originated and go back to Vegas.

Fire captain Jason Landry isn’t looking for love, either. Disillusioned by his past, he knows he should be focusing on finding the perfect mother for his daughter. But when he first sees Colby, all grown up and gorgeous, he can’t help but be drawn to her. And when she suggests a no-strings-attached fling, Jason can’t say no.

As their relationship grows more intense, Colby finds that Jason isn’t as easy to leave behind as she thought. Could turning up the heat on something real be worth the possibility of getting burned?

I love Colby!

Taste the Heat by Rachel Harris was slightly less spicy than I was expecting, but chock full of awesomeness. Taste the Heat follows chef, Colby Robicheaux who returns home to New Orleans to save her family restaurant. She comes home in time to judge the Taste the Heat contest, where fire captains (yes there are sexy fire fighters in this book) of different fire departments make spicy dishes to win a prize and raise money for a good cause.

Colby runs into none other than childhood crush Jason Landry and it turns out he’s finally decided to notice her. I really enjoyed this book. Colby absolutely reminds me of myself. She’s a total workaholic and the poor girl has so many trust issues, rightfully so, and I just want to hug her.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated or did you always just know you wanted to be a writer?

I’ve always been a storyteller in some form. I have a CRAZY imagination, and when I was younger, it took the form of me crafting stories involving characters from my favorite shows or boy bands (ahem New Kids on The Block) falling in love with me. Like I said, I had a crazy imagination. And perhaps a slightly sad one LOL.

Then, around seventh grade, my honors Language Arts teacher encouraged creative writing in class, and I think that’s when I wrote my first real stories. In high school, I mainly wrote poetry—most of it extremely bad—and then in college, I picked it back up with writing fan fiction for Guiding Light.

Born and bred to win, Cami’s family expects her to join a secret society called The Guard, marry one of the two identical twin boys next door, and stay on Pinhold Island for the rest of her life. But she has other plans: work beach patrol, win the Surf Carnival and get a sponsor so that she can leave Pinhold to compete in international surf rescue competitions and see the world.

Home to epic waves, black sand beaches, and the world-famous Surf Carnival, Pinhold Island is regularly voted the top surf spot in the country. When Pinhold residents start falling prey to an unknown illness involving the vast waters and dolphins, Cami finds herself in a race to save her twins life and figure out what in the world is going on in Pinhold before she and Blake, the boy she loves, becomes the next victims

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated or did you always just know you wanted to be a writer?

I always knew but I definitely forgot for a while. When I was little I wrote all the time for fun, and it was always a special skill, but I'd convinced myself that I wanted to be on the business side of the entertainment industry so I moved to LA and worked at a talent agency. It was a very big aha moment when I realized I wanted to be talent not management, but since then I haven't looked back.

What inspired Clicks?

Like so many people, I loved Katniss Everdeen's character - she was so strong and taught to rely on her instincts. But I didn't like that she had to do all that because she lived in this horrible world. I wanted to create a heroine who had very little reason to develop that kind of strength and the ability to trust her gut because I think we all need to do it.

It's a skill that's ignored in our society, and it's ignored on Pinhold as well because everyone is so comfortable there. It's is the most perfect example on earth of the balance of nature and time, but it's beauty hides danger, and it's fragile balance can be disrupted easily if those who are supposed to take care of it can't pay attention to the signs.

Which came first for you, the characters or the plot?

Book Description:

Elizabeth DeVille doesn't belong at a party like this—one where the gowns cost more than her Camry and cigars run higher than her grad school utility bills. Dragged out of seclusion by her best friend Suri, Elizabeth is merely playing dress-up, rubbing elbows with a crowd that banished her troubled family years ago.

Hunter West is tired. Tired of parties, tired of pretending, and tired of trying to right a wrong that haunts him every day. Bourbon heir and professional poker player by day, by night Hunter is gambling with his life in a high-stakes game of crime and blackmail.

When Elizabeth stumbles into Hunter's den of vices, she's a light in the darkness, a flame in the void. And, just like everything he touches, Hunter mars her in a record time. To rectify the damage done, Elizabeth needs money she doesn't have, and she's come up with a foolproof way to get it.

Follow Elizabeth—code-named Scarlett—to the lush Nevada brothel where she'll auction her virginity and risk the only thing that's not for sale: her heart. The highest bidder is a familiar face, with wicked hands and the devil's mouth. And a secret so dark that it could cost her life.

♥ ♥ ♥

Ten things you didn't know about Hunter West, bad boy hero of Selling Scarlett

1. He loves his Napa Valley vineyard more than anything except Elizabeth.

2. He's a licensed SCUBA diving instructor.

3. He likes red wine more than liquor, including bourbon (where his family made his fortune), but he can't drink wine because it would reflect badly on West Bourbon.

4. He hates his hometown, New Orleans, and rarely visits if he can avoid it.

This isn't a deep book about first loves or self-discovery. If you want a book like that, I'd be happy to recommend one, but I don't have that kind of story to tell. Instead my story is about rash decisions and finding out that your dream guy is bad in bed.

It's the story of when I finally went skinny dipping, and how my life was never the same again. Oh, and it's also the story of my freshman year of college and realizing Mr. Right might have been there all along.

I’m not entirely sure what I was expecting when deciding to read the Hazards of Skinny Dipping by Alyssa Rose Ivy, but whatever it was, this was a million times better! I love all of Ivy’s books, this isn’t a surprise, she writes extremely well and the characters she develops in her novels are so real that you can’t help but love them.

That being said, The Hazards of Skinny Dipping might actually be my all-time favorite book from her that I’ve read thus far. I cannot get over how utterly amazing this book was. The Hazards of Skinny Dipping follows Juliet who is starting her freshmen year of college in a few weeks, but according to her cousin Amy, there are some things she needs to do before starting classes, like skinny dipping.

We are totally Team Reed here at Pink Fluffy Hearts, so we have to ask how does it feel to finally be dating Juliet?

First of all, thanks for having me, and thanks for being on my side.

Things with Juliet are amazing. I knew there was something special about Juliet early on, but I never imagined she’d get so under my skin. Watching her with Dylan was horrible, and I’m just glad I got my chance.

We're glad too!

What do you think you'll do after college? Any plans?

I’m not sure yet. I’ve thought about continuing on for a masters or even a PhD in History, but right now I’m just trying to get through undergrad and enjoy it.

Book Description:

The world is in danger. Mankind is sinking deeper into darkness it cannot understand.

Demons are easily capturing souls as they lead men and women down dangerous paths from which there is no return, while Javan, one of the Fallen, seeks an ancient book and the power it promises. If he succeeds, humans — and the world as they know it — will be destroyed.

There is someone who is capable of stopping Javan . . .

If she discovers him in time.

Gabrielle is one of the most powerful angels ever created, her job one of the most important. She has come to Earth to learn more about humans and what influences them, and to fight evil she sees growing at an alarming rate. She soon finds herself carelessly distracted with one human in particular, however. Lucas Watkins holds a promise of peace and love for Gabrielle that she never believed she could have again.

As feelings between her and Lucas become more than she can deny, so do the dangers mounting against him. After discovering who Lucas is, and the choice he faces, she realizes Darkness will come for him through demons and fantastical beings he thought only existed in his imaginings — forcing fairytales to become his reality.

Caught between her new mortal ties and ancient immortal responsibilities, Gabrielle must race against what seems to be an ever-quickening clock to learn what she needs to know, protect Lucas, uncover Javan’s plan, and find a way to stop him and all who live in Shadows.

Things become more complex than she ever anticipated, her decisions more critical, and what begins as a quest for information rapidly places her in an even more crucial position within the longest and most important war ever waged.

I received a copy of Inception by Teal Haviland from Inkslinger book promotions in exchange for an honest review and honestly I’m having trouble putting my thoughts into words. Inception follows the story of Gabrielle, the Angel of Karma, and her journey to understand and save humanity.

Haviland is a good writer. She has the ability to paint a picture with just enough detail that your imagination can pretty much fill in the blanks creating this magical and heavily world where anything and everything can happen.

We'd like to thank Fisher Amelie for stopping by and talking about Vain with us as well as her writing.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated or did you always just know you wanted to be a writer?

I was born to write…I just didn’t realize it until my early twenties. I mean, I wrote almost every day, even as a very little girl but I never considered myself a writer. I would keep journal upon journal upon journal on subjects of nothing, poetry, random stories that struck my imagination and I felt were worthy enough to jot down. I did this for years and years before recognizing that I might actually have a future in it. I tucked all these journals away for a few years, went to school and became a copywriter. I continued to write every day but I wrote things I didn’t care for, for people I didn’t care for. One day I woke up and asked myself what I was doing. I’ve never looked back.

Book Description:

If you’re looking for a story about a good, humble girl, who’s been hurt by someone she thought she could trust, only to find out she’s not as vulnerable as she thought she was and discovers an empowering side of herself that falls in love with the guy who helps her find that self, blah, blah, blah...then you’re gonna’ hate my story.

Because mine is not the story you read every time you bend back the cover of the latest trend novel. It’s not the “I can do anything, now that I’ve found you/I’m misunderstood but one day you’ll find me irresistible because of it” tale. Why? Because, if I was being honest with you, I’m a complete witch. There’s nothing redeeming about me. I’m a friend using, drug abusing, sex addict from Los Angeles. I’m every girlfriend’s worst nightmare and every boy’s fantasy.

I’m Sophie Price...And this is the story about how I went from the world’s most envied girl to the girl no one wanted around and why I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

♥ ♥ ♥

I’m not sure it’s possible for me to express with words, just how much I loved Vain by Fisher Amelie. I’ll admit in the beginning Sophie wasn’t exactly my favorite person, but I expected that. Amelie did an amazing job of creating Sophie in a way that showed off her worst possible qualities and yet still made me want to know more about what makes her tick.

I’ve read a lot of stories with good character development, but Vain might be the best redemption story I’ve ever read, and that’s saying something. Seeing Sophie change from a self-absorbed, materialist, spoiled brat into a young woman who would give her life for the people she cares about is absolutely beautiful.
