The Paranormal World of
Forged in Dreams and Magick

The story line of Forged in Dreams and Magick evolved from my secret desire to travel back in time to both the medieval Highlands and the land of ancient Picts, but the mysteries behind the world were revealed to me during the drafting and editing process.

A thrilling aspect of writing as a “pantster” is experiencing the journey through the eyes of the reader, wind blowing across my face, heart racing. The rollercoaster car ratchets up to the peak before the adventure twists and turns, taking on a life of its own.

Book Description:

What happens when the one person you never expected suddenly happens to be the one you’ll fight the hardest to keep?

Colton stole my heart. He wasn't supposed to, and I sure as hell didn't want him to, but he crashed into my life, ignited feelings within me that I thought had died forever, and fueled a passion that I never knew could exist.

Rylee fell out of that damn storage closet and into my life. Now I don't think I'll ever be the same. She's seen glimpses of the darkness within me, and yet she's still here. Still fighting for me. She is without a doubt the saint, and I am most definitely the sinner.

How is it the one thing neither of us wanted—neither of us anticipated that fateful night—has us fighting so hard to keep?

He steals my breath, stops my heart, and brings me back to life again all in a split second of time. But how can I love a man who won't let me in? Who continually pushes me away to prevent me from seeing the damaged secrets in his past? My heart has fallen, but patience and forgiveness can only go so far.

How can I desire a woman who unnerves me, defies me, and forces me to see that in the deep, black abyss of my soul there's someone worthy of her love? A place and person I swore I'd never be again. Her selfless heart and sexy body deserve so much more than I'll ever be capable of giving her. I know I can't be what she needs, so why can't I just let her go?

We are driven by need and fueled with desire, but is that enough for us to crash into love?

Book Description:

The sign said: “Welcome to New York.” It lied.

Every instinct I had told me to get out but I couldn’t, not now. This simple case would trigger repercussions that would unnerve the city, maybe the country. I was about to open doors that had been nailed shut for a lifetime. And the only path to the truth was through a labyrinth of deceit. I trusted no one, not even myself. My stomach tightened.

The ten years had slipped by like a century. I never thought I’d see New York again and now I find myself buried in its bowels, unsure of what I was after—but I knew I had to find it. I snaked through the city bureaucracy, historical landmarks and some of the most prominent properties in the city, all intricately linked. Nothing fit, yet everything connected and answers only bred more questions. Somehow it had all been mysteriously tied back to me.

I ventured into the darkest tunnel of all, my own. I realized then why I was chosen—why I had been the only one that could find this elusive document. Deep within a maze of deceptions and betrayals, I uncovered a massive conspiracy among the most esteemed organizations in the world—and the truth that had sent my life into a tailspin ten years ago was far from true. Suddenly, this seemingly routine assignment had enormous stakes and consequences. Now it was up to me to mend an ancient injustice and the fate of an entire culture.

The Creative Journey

By Ritch Gaiti

I spent most of my adult years on Wall Street. No, not manufacturing the money, rather developing the technology that supports it. I found it an extremely creative process. Contrary to today, technology was still new; most people did not understand it and had no idea what to do with it. Yet, they understood that it was important, whatever it was. To me, technology was a paintbrush and the business world, the canvas. In a left brained environment, I used my right brain to succeed.

I was them – part of the machine. I had my successes, paid my dues and navigated the turbulent waters of the corporation. I was very successful: a rising star, a comer, the next-in-line to be next-in-line. Then I quit. Yep, I had a few bucks in my jeans (ok, my 401k), and the time was right. I decided to pursue my right brain and ventured into writing and painting.

The Most Humbling Aspect of Being a Writer

By Marianne Spitzer

I believe the most humbling aspect of being a writer is learning to accept criticism. It’s natural for human beings to want praise for what they’ve done. Not everyone will see your writing the way you do.

You have worked hard on your piece. After your third or maybe fourth draft, you feel you’re ready to share your work. You have a group of beta readers. Most of them are friends and you expect honesty. Many friends might feel if they’re negative they’ll hurt your feelings. Three of them give you rave reviews and love your story. You’re excited and picture yourself as the next great novelist.

A fourth friend feels he/she needs to be completely honest with you. She may have enjoyed your plotline and/or characters, but find the dialogue a little flat or your descriptions dull. Possibly your story became boring in spots. Your friend critiques your book pointing out the bad points and the good.

Book Description:

I have 15 minutes to save my mother’s life….

15 minutes is all the Rewind Agency gives you in the past, but for Lara Crane it’s enough time to race through the city, find her mother, and stop her from being killed in a mugging that happened over ten years ago.

But that’s not how it happened. The story she’s been told all her life is a lie and when Lara takes a bullet meant for her mother, her future changes forever.

The love of her life acts like a stranger. Her simple life is replaced with a giant house, glamorous clothes and a new boyfriend.

Except someone knows her secret. And he will try to stop her at every turn as she races against the clock to unravel a dangerous conspiracy.

15 Minutes is an edgy high octane YA thriller that can be described as Back to the Future meets Inception where the people Lara trusts change in an instant. She is in a timeline she doesn't understand, and is about to make one fatal mistake as she faces an enemy so familiar, he’s family.

Plot Evolution and World Building

Almost sounds like a Realty TV show, doesn't it?

But for me, plot evolution is all about what writing a novel is about. I'm a pantser, which means I write with no outline and little prep work. Sometimes I write a blurb, sometimes I write down 1 page of facts or ideas, and sometimes I just have a character name. Either way I write fast, rough drafts are dirty, gritty, and full of intense raw emotion. And when I start, I have little idea where I am going.

It is kind of like chess, because I usually know about 3 chapters ahead where I am going. But once I get those 3 chapters written, well, all bets are off. What happens next? Not knowing what happens in your plot next is a lot like driving blind or sky diving blindfolded, yes those might be more dangerous.

Inspiration For My Writing

Inspiration for my writing is derived largely from two elements: travel and social construct. For travel, it is my aim to inspire those who wish to go somewhere far and away from the big city noise, to take that first step. I want to share the beautiful experiences I’ve had with the reader, so that they too can get a glimpse, and a feeling, of what it feels like to have a moment in time when life feels like magic.

It could be a walk up an alleyway in Granada, a ride through the Greek countryside or the people you meet, who make you realise that by not travelling, you are missing out on a life of absolute awe and love.

1. He loves his Napa Valley vineyard more than anything except Elizabeth.

3. He likes red wine more than liquor, including bourbon (where his family made his fortune), but he can't drink wine because it would reflect badly on West Bourbon.

4. He hates his hometown, New Orleans, and rarely visits if he can avoid it.

Book Description:

On Cara Weaver’s first day at her new high school—merely the next in a long line of new schools—she meets two senior boys: James Sable and Crispin Calaway. They’re new too; they’ve been at the school just longer than she has, and they’ve never made an effort to reach out to anyone. Until she comes. When her friends find out, they’re awed. But Cara can't shake the feeling that there’s more to James and Crispin than the two are telling.

As the days go on, everything at her new home seems to be going better than it has in any of the previous cities she’s lived in. She loves her friends, gets a job at a bookstore, and even starts to spend more time with Crispin and James. She’s happy. But all that begins to change when she comes to realize that the two boys she’s becoming close to are hiding something. It’s then that she knows her unexplainable wariness of them has been justified all along. But she keeps it a secret.

Days later, when a stranger accosts her outside a small shopping center, Crispin and James arrive just in time to help her. But they seem know the attacker. And instead of running him off, Crispin and James take Cara away, for her own protection.

With little explanation, Cara is told that she’s important and that she can’t go home until the boys have sorted some things out. In the meantime, Cara’s world is being turned upside down as she finds out that there is more to her life than she possibly imagined.

How to Create a Character Readers Relate To

I think I should preface this by saying that I am and have always been a huge reader. I honestly cannot remember a time when I didn’t love books. They have always been a hobby and a passion of mine. That being said, all those books I have read and reread: I know why I liked them. I know which characters I felt for and cared about and which drew me in, which I wished I knew in person, and I also know which ones I didn’t like and why. All those were things I couldn’t help but keep in mind while I was shaping my own story.

So let me start with Cara. There are a lot of book heroines out there that I am quite simply irritated by. The kinds of heroines who make it hard to reread books because you care less about them that you do the secondary characters. I was very aware of that when I was writing. More than anything (possibly more than I wanted a fantastic first book), I wanted Cara to be likeable. I wanted people to root for her and care about her and feel for her.

Satan’s Playlist

I am often asked if I have playlists for the books I write, which got me thinking. One of the key characters in my novel, Boyfriend from Hell is Satan himself. What music do you suppose would be burnin’ up Satan’s ipod? I thought I’d have a little fun with it. Here is my take on Satan’s Playlist:

I believe Satan has to be a serious rocker, so I am certain Bat Out Of Hell by Meatloaf would be high up on his list; along with Hotel California by The Eagles. He’d round out his rock list with a little metal: Hells Bells by AC/DC, and what devil doesn’t listen to The Rolling Stones: It Must Be Hell, along with another Stone’s hit, Sympathy for The Devil. Yeah, I bet Satan really loves that one.

The Writing Process

It’s funny how little is planned when I sit down to write. I imagine most authors having notebooks, maybe multiple, of ideas and plot points and character sheets for their novels, and when they sit down to write, they compile all of their ideas into paragraph form, having every intention to make their ways to the final climaxes planned out months, maybe years before.

But, through the years, it’s seemed that the more and more I plan out a piece or have a vivid picture of where the story is going or who the characters are, the more and more I stray from it. I do not like to write within constrictions, even if the constrictions are made by myself.

Top Ten Most Important Aspects of Book Reviewing and Why

Book reviewing is more than just saying you like or dislike a book. Thought needs to be put into every review. There are ten things every reviewer needs to focus on.

1. Read the Book – If you don’t finish a book, please don’t review it. Many people will read a book and not finish it yet still write a review. That is being unfair to the book. You have no idea how it might end. It might have the most fabulous ending in the world, and you missed it as well as misdirected other people.

2. Be Polite – Never be nasty in writing a review. It reflects poorly on the reviewer. Any reviewer that is not polite is just being mean to the book and the author. Not good at all.

5 reasons I write Fantasy

So, what are five reasons I like to write Fantasy? How about I narrow this down to five words instead: Seriously, what’s not to love? I have been a fan of fantasy/paranormal books, movies, shows, and local myths since I was a little girl. My first memory of the fantasy genre was with Interview with A Vampire.

I was four years old and my aunt, who’s just as big a fan as me if not more, was watching the movie on Halloween. I don’t remember every detail of course, but I remember watching it with her and being totally enthralled. From there it was R.L. Stine books, more Anne Rice, and so on.

I started writing when I was around 7 and while my writing wasn’t too farfetched with fantasy it was about a young boy and his pet alligator Sam. They had all sort of adventures together. Then as I aged, my writing became more involved with pure fantasy.

If all of our worst fears about global warming were to come true, what would you miss the most?

Think about it: with trade routes disrupted, and international travel -- even interstate travel -- unreliable or impossible, there would be no out-of-season foods or exotic fruits, no commercial airlines or cruise ships. And coal, gasoline, building materials, light bulbs, paper products -- anything not produced in your local area -- would become commodities only the rich could afford.

In the case of Adam Twist, the thing he misses most is a good, strong cup of coffee. After all, what Private Investigator in history ever solved a crime without a constant dose of caffeine to keep the brain cells stroking on all eight cylinders? But even though coffee -- and money, but hey, what’s new? -- is in short supply, one thing that’s never in short supply in Twist’s life is trouble.

My Degree in Gender Education

In college, I learned fascinating truths about behavioral differences between men and women, but not from a class. It came from walking up a tall hill on a frosty morning with my dress tucked in the back of my pantyhose. Happily unaware, I remember thinking as I walked along, chirping and cooing to the young man I had casually caught up to, that it was unusually chilly that morning. I even wished I had worn a long coat instead of a short jacket. I remember the great number of students, both in front and behind us, all heading for our eight o’clock classes.

And upon first reaching his class building, I lastly remember, after saying a coy good-bye and turning to go, his voice flatly echoing across the morning campus, “Hey Connie, your skirt.” This was when I swept my hand behind my lower half and found, well, my lower half.

Guest Post: Lilliana Anderson

Today I'm pleased to welcome author Lilliana Anderson to the blog to talk a little bit about something we all love...Hot guys!

HOT Guy Creation.

Firstly, I want to say a big thank you to all of the ladies that work on this blog, for allowing me to guest post today! It truly is an honor.

When I got my list of blogs for this tour, there were so many guest posts that I needed to write that I decided to ask my readers what they’d like to hear from me.

This question is from ‘Sab, the Book Eater’ (no she doesn’t literally eat books, she devours them with her mind, lol!) and she wants to know how I created the ‘dreamy’ men in my Beautiful series.

Book Description:

Love is the ultimate rush.

Freshman year of college isn't easy. But with a friend like Libby Patterson, it is unforgettable.

Libby is honest and fearless and adorable. She's the girl on campus that everyone knows. The life of every party. Infectious and addictive, Libby captivates all those around her. Particularly her roommate Honor and their boy bestie Toby.

But three isn't always a magic number. And there's more to this trio than what everyone sees.

When Honor finds herself falling for an artist, and Libby doesn’t approve, and Toby finds himself watching Libby more than he should...the sides of their circle become strained.

The three are suddenly stretched between friendship, love and taking sides. They must fight to hold on to each other. But the tighter the hold, the harder it gets. Especially when Libby's unpredictability turns dangerous. Now it's up to Honor and Toby to save her from the downward spiral that could break their circle for good.

Today we’re going to discuss how to take on the manic pixie trope and win. First, you need to understand that this is a lesser known character trope than Mary Sue, but it is still highly criticized in some circles.

So how did we end up with a book that is about a manic pixie? Well, we did it on purpose. We wanted to systematically take on a character like this and give her depth and complexity and a fully developed arc. And we wanted to do it without any of it being from her point of view.

Enter Libby.
